From this Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe County Durham provides a base for a range of both statutory and voluntary organisations providing services to support vulnerable people in the community. The centre includes a GP practice.

The brief for this project was developed through meeting with various user groups to determine their often disparate needs with the challenge of providing a cohesive design.

The simple solution was to create two arms of accommodation with a central circulation route, that central space being a kind of internal street or marketplace linking the various service spaces. This space was developed as a glazed two storey atrium with characterful crafted detailing, creating a memorable and distinctive place to be.

The scheme was completed in 1999 to a contract value of £2m.
